Create a Zoho CRM profile without delete or export rights

The intern needs access, but not to everything
An intern starts on Monday and needs to work with leads and deals. They should not delete records or export the customer list. The Standard profile allows both, and building a new profile by hand means going through dozens of rights module by module.

Clone the profile, switch rights off, confirm
Say which profile to start from, what to call the copy and which rights to turn off:
Clone the Standard profile as "Intern" and turn off delete and export on the copy. Show me the rights before you change anything.
It reads the source profile with all its rights and lists the ones that match your request, so you see exactly which delete and export rights it will turn off. It then clones the profile with its current rights and no users, and turns those rights off on the copy. Each step asks for your final confirmation, in every permission mode.
The new profile has no users. Assign the intern to it in Zoho CRM Setup; the assistant does not change a user's profile.

How to do it by hand in Zoho CRM
You can do this in Zoho CRM yourself. Here are the steps.
- Open Zoho CRM Setup and go to Profiles.
- Clone the Standard profile and give the copy a name.
- Open the copy and turn off the delete rights on each module, and the export right.
- Save, then assign the user to the new profile.
Cloning is quick. It gets slow when the rights you want off are spread across many modules and you have to find each one.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it change the Standard profile?
No. It makes a copy and changes only the copy. Users on Standard keep exactly the rights they had.
Will it assign the intern to the new profile?
No. The new profile starts with no users, and the assistant does not change which profile a user has. Assign the user in Zoho CRM Setup.
What does it read?
The source profile with all its rights, and the existing profile names so the copy gets a free one. It does not change your records, and it does not move any user to another profile.
Can it be wrong?
It can match more or fewer rights than you meant, for example delete on every module when you meant only Leads. Turning off a module's view right also removes access to that module and may turn off rights that depend on it. Read the list of rights on the confirmation before you confirm.
Can it delete the profile later?
Only a custom profile with no users. Deleting is permanent and always asks for a final confirmation. Profiles with users are refused; move the users first in Zoho CRM Setup.
Will it work on my Zoho CRM edition?
It needs a Zoho CRM edition and user profile with API access, and it can only do what your profile is allowed to do. Changing profiles needs an administrator profile, and the number of profiles allowed depends on your edition. This use case has not been checked edition by edition yet, so write to us if you want to check yours first.
